I started dancing at the Normandy Old Time Dance Club (now known as the Normandy
Sequence Club) with my mother in 1953 and I am still a member today. I was Secretary
of the Club from 1959 until 1972.
For many years, I was the Leader partnered by Alf Puttock, of the P.P. Old Time &
Modern Sequence Dance Club based in Guildford. Following the sad loss of Alf in 1996,
I continued to run the Club assisted by various partners, namely Lionel Wood, Harold
Barker and Richard Purcell, and not being able to find a suitable regular partner,
I resigned as leader in 1997. From 2001 - 2003, Richard and I were leaders of the
Normandy Sequence Dance Club.
As will be seen from Richard's Profile, I have known him for over 40 years, and first
began dancing with him at the Chiddingfold Club in Surrey.
I have twice been President of the Wey Valley Sequence Dance Club Association, served
on their Dance Selection Committee, and have been a member of the main Committee
for many years.
I joined the Old Time Dance Society in January 1987, and have acted as Area Rep.
for Surrey and NE Hants since April 1997, and was elected on to the Committee in
October 2003, I have also served as Treasurer and became Chairman in October 2006.
Although dancing takes up a fair proportion of my time, my other interests include
gardening, watching most sports (especially athletics, cricket and tennis), card
making , golf, the U3A and the National Trust. I am also on the management committee
of the Normandy Village Hall.
